Septic Arthritis in Large Animals

Description




The infection typically reaches the joint through the bloodstream. In some instances the joints may become infected due to an injection, surgery, or injury.
Infectious arthritis or synovitis due to various bacterial organisms can occur in any species, particularly in the newborn. Fungal agents cause arthritis in rare cases. Bacterial endocarditis can be associated with arthritis.
